Did you know … that Ashdown Forest has the highest level of UK environmental protection and is an internationally recognised site due to its population of ground nesting breeding birds, the nightjar and Dartford warbler? Disturbing these birds during their nesting season from 1st March to 31st August may result in the birds abandoning their nest, and failing to raise their young, which could over time affect the ability of these species to survive on the forest.
Five suitable Alternative Natural Greenspaces (SANGs) have been provided by surrounding local authorities to help protect the sensitive heathland habitat of Ashdown Forest.
