Learn about deer on Ashdown Forest as the Fallow Deer rut reaches its peak.

As the fallow deer rut peaks, now is a perfect time of year to find out more about deer on the forest. After a short indoor introduction to types of deer, their ecology and their history on the forest, we will head out to look for tracks and signs of their presence and listen out for the grunting bucks as dusk falls. There may be a need to relocate by car to another nearby forest car park to offer a chance of seeing this species.

Tickets can be booked through Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ashdown-forest-deer-experience-tickets-382969310517

General events notes:

The walk will be on foot over varied, and occasionally hilly terrain. Participants should be prepared with suitable outdoor clothing for the weather conditions and sturdy footwear. Walks go at a gentle pace with frequent stops and may cover up to 5km in distance, so a moderate level of fitness is required.

A refreshing drink and a light snack will be served during the event. Please let us know on booking whether you have any dietary requirements.

Suitable for ages 14yrs +. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

No dogs.

Please note that we cannot guarantee the target species. Both wildlife and the British weather are unpredictable, but there’s always something to see and experience, whatever the weather.
