Having an Ashdown Forest Riding Permit gives you access to over 75 miles of varied and beautiful riding. You can easily ride all day.

Riding is by permit only, and every horse must display a valid badge. More than 300 horse riding permits are issued every year.  Riders are required to agree to our Code of Conduct and hold an appropriate public liability insurance.

We offer three types of permit – Annual (running from April to April), Winter (running from October to April) and Daily (for a specified date).  There is no daily time limit for how long, or when, you can ride if you have a valid permit.

To apply for a permit, please complete the appropriate form and return it to the Forest Centre Office.  Forms and riding queries should be emailed to [email protected]

Five Forest car parks may be used for horse boxes/trailers/lorries: Box, Blackhill and Long, are available for all permit holders; Twyford and Broadstone are for Ashdown Forest Riding Association (AFRA) members only.

The following are licensed riding establishments who have special permission to lead hacks out onto the Forest:

Ashdown Forest Riding Association (AFRA) is an independent riding group whose committee and members are active riders on Ashdown Forest.  Their members receive a discount on the cost of the annual permit. For further information email [email protected]
