The Friends of Ashdown Forest are pleased to announce the launch of their new website www.friendsofashdownforest.co.uk where you can find out more about who they are, what they do, their events and how to join. They have begun compiling an archive of articles published in ‘Ashdown Forest News’ which will also be added to over time.

The summer season of events for the Friends began in May, with a talk on the amazing work of Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. A most enjoyable tour of Pippingford Park followed in June, where they walked alongside a series of lakes and saw the wildlife, while finding out about the pillow mounds and the iron workings in the area.  Also in June, members of the Ashdown Forest Bird Group led the Friends on a Nightjar Walk; a video clip of a Nightjar flying round the group is available to watch on the Events page of their website.

Even more recently, the police volunteer took an enthusiastic party on a visit to Kingstanding, where the Friends saw the remains of the World War II radio station and the nuclear bunker dating from the Cold War, as well as ‘the village’ which is used for police training. A tour of Chelwood Vachery Garden with Hew Prendergast was a great success, with members exploring the terraces, water gardens and the chain of lakes which were constructed in the woodland from 1925 by Gavin Jones.
